Airbrush Tanning FAQ’s

What Is Airbrush Tanning?

Airbrush Tanning (also known as spray tanning) one of our thoroughly trained tanning technicians uses a spray gun to apply tanning solution (DHA) evenly over the entire body.

How do I prepare for an Airbrush Tanning session?

For the maximum result, before your session shower and exfoliate the skin. Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier. Also, remove all jewelry (and don’t put it back on until a few hours after your tan)! Bring loose fitting clothes to your appointment and wear them after your tan is applied.

What is the advantage of Airbrush Tanning over UV tanning?

Airbrush tanning is an alternative form of tanning. People with sensitive skin or people who have a hard time tanning, naturally or in tanning beds will find this form of tanning very comforting. One application with airbrush tanning will be equivalent to approximately 6 tanning bed sessions, there for making it cost effective and better on your skin.

What is the difference between being airbrushed and using cream or lotion sunless tanners at home?

Imagine the difference between being airbrushed and using cream or lotion sunless tanners at home? Imagine the difference between finger painting your car and using an airbrush to paint it. Even with the greatest of care, and help from a friend to get all the places you cannot reach, you can’t duplicate the even consistency and naturally look of an airbrushed tan.

Is it blotchy or uneven? Does it look fake?

No, one coat is applied and if there are any marks or imperfections of any kind, they are immediately fixed. The client will be asked to look at themselves to make sure that the tan is exactly what they wanted. A second coat can be applied to darken color or fix any uneven areas. It is a natural, golden, even colored tan every time.

What do I wear?

This is the decision of the client. You can either wear an old bathing suit or undergarments. Or we can provide you with disposable underwear. Most of our clients, in effort to avoid lines, prefer to go completely nude for best results. Make sure to bring loose clothing to wear after your tan. Even though the solution will not be sprayed on clothes, it does not stain. It comes out once laundered.

What is a Shimmer add on?

Shimmer Drops are added to the tanning solution to highlight and give a slimming appearance to areas such as shoulders and collar bone, as well as a beautiful natural glow to your face. The Shimmer add on is best used before a special event and should follow by dressing in dark colored clothing. Effects last up to 24 hours or before first shower following tan.

How long does it take?

The entire process from start to finish is about 20 minutes (10 minutes to be airbrushed and 10 minutes to dry)

How long will my Airbrush Tan last?

It depends on how often you shower and exfoliate your skin. Make sure not to shower 7-12 hours after your tan is applied. Airbrush tanning lasts approximately 7 days. Like a suntan, your airbrush tan will fade gradually as your skin exfoliates. Moisturizing your skin with our TAN EXTENDER is very beneficial with keeping a long lasting tan. You can purchase this product at any of our locations.

How Can I maximize my spray tan?

Here are some of the best ways to keep your tan for long as possible:

  • Limit physical activity for 7-12 hours following your tanning session.
  • Do not shower or bathe for at least 7-12 hours after your tanning session.
  • Moisturize day and night to prevent premature fading.
  • Avoid harsh cleansers, use a soft wash cloth for washing and pat yourself dry.
  • Anti-acne products that include Retin-A and some makeup removal products may cause your tan to fade. Also avoid exfoliating scrubs, facial masks & alcohol-based toners.

TIP: To remove any unwanted color, scrub the area with a mixture of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water.
